Karnataka is considered one of India’s top choices to get an MBBS degree. There are so many highly regarded private and deemed medical schools located in Karnataka. NRI (Non-Resident Indian), OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) or PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) are allowed access to a set percentage of each medical school’s seat, called NRI/Management Quota.

There are two agencies that control how many NRI quota students can be accepted, KEA (Karnataka Examinations Authority) for government-funded (aided) seats; COMEDK (Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka) and/or the deemed/private colleges for deemed/private funded (un-aided) seats. Admissions are handled by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) through NEET UG counselling based on NEET UG 2026 scores.

NRI seats are separate from government, private, and management quotas. Though expensive, they offer an alternate admission route for eligible students.

Academic Eligibility:

• Completed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as core subjects.
• Minimum marks in PCB aggregate: 50% for General, 40% for SC/ST/OBC.
• Minimum age: 17 years on or before 31st December 2026.
• No upper age limit as per the Supreme Court order (2022).

NEET UG Qualification:

• Must have appeared in NEET UG 2026 and obtained a valid scorecard.
• Minimum qualifying percentile: 50th percentile for General, 40th percentile for PwD General, and 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC.

NRI / OCI / PIO Status:

• NRI: The candidate themselves, or their parent(s), or blood relatives (grandparents, siblings, uncles/aunts) must hold a valid NRI status with a foreign passport and proof of residing/working abroad.
• OCI Cardholder: Valid OCI card issued by Government of India.
• PIO Cardholder: Valid PIO card (now merged with OCI; old PIO cards still accepted).
• Foreign nationals of Indian origin sponsored through bilateral government schemes may also be eligible.
