The institute is situated at Kothipura in district Bilaspur of Himachal Pradesh and established with a motive of augmenting tertiary health care services and medical education for the entire Himalayan region. It is recognized by the National Medical Commission and operates as an autonomous institution under the AIIMS Act.
The institution provides under graduate courses of MBBS, nursing, postgraduate and super specialization medical training with state of the art academic and clinical facilities. Facilities provided on the campus include high tech lecture theaters, smart class rooms, anatomy dissection halls, laboratories, digital library, seminar halls, simulation and skill lab, research infrastructure, ultra modern hostel facilities.
The associated teaching hospital is providing outpatient, emergency and trauma services, Intensive care facilities, highly sophisticated diagnostic laboratories, Radiology Departments, modular operation theatres, blood bank, specialty clinics and inpatient beds for practical training. It is steadily being built as a tertiary health care center and research institution for Himachal Pradesh and neighboring hill states.
